Jonathan Griffiths contributes to the drafting of a Recommendation on reform of EU Trade Mark Law

2 October 2014

Jonathan Griffiths, Reader in Intellectual Property Law at Queen Mary University of London, has been involved in the drafting of an academic document entitled 'Recommendation on Measures to Safeguard Freedom of Expression and Undistorted Competition in EU Trade Mark Law'.

In the context of the proposed revision of European trade mark law, the document (initiated by Professor Martin Senftleben of the VU, Amsterdam) emphasises the need to balance protection accorded to trade marks with other general social interests, in particular freedom of expression and undistorted competition.
